About Us

Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society with over 75,000 student members in more than 1,500 schools. We are dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject ,and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. The Mu Alpha Theta National High School and Junior College Mathematics Club was founded in 1957 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard V. Andree at the University of Oklahoma. You make Mu Alpha Theta what you want it to be.  Join and help create a club of excellence!

 WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN MU ALPHA THETA?

· To get better in math so you will be prepared for college and beyond.

· To have fun while doing it.

· To help others become better in math.

· To receive special awards or scholarships exclusive to members of Mu Alpha Theta such as The Kalin Award for outstanding extracurricular achievement. The winner of the Award receives a $2500 prize and a distinguished plaque. The Andree Award for a student interested in becoming a mathematics teacher. Each Andree Award winner receives a $2500 cash prize. The Mu Alpha Theta Scholarship Award which awards 12 $4,000 scholarships.  The Vectors Scholars Program which awards $36,000 in scholarships in four disciplines.

· To add a nationally recognized Honor Society to your college résumé.

 

· To participate in Mathematics Competitions at your own school through the Log 1 Contest and the Rocket City Math League.

Agenda item: Design flyer for the Math Problem of the Week.

 

Discussion

: Decide what kind of paper we will use for the flyer (neon paper or white paper with colored ink). How will the question be organized on the paper? Should the question be on the actual flyer or should the students come to Ms. Hall/Ms. Vinson to retrieve the question with a exchange of $1.00?

 

Conclusion

: Use neon paper to draw attention. Include question of the week on the flyer with a list of the necessary requirements to participate and submit the question. Bring question to Ms. Hall’s/Ms. Vinson’s room. Students must pay $1.00 to submit the answer before end of D Lunch.

Download Mu Alpha Theta Constitution Brief updates for next meeting:  -Discuss SAT reviews following meetings -Turn in participation form for homecoming by next meeting -Decide a proper uniform for our club -Ms. Hall and Ms. Vincent will provide a balance spreadsheet Download Account Record for treasurer and a template Download Meeting Minutes for the secretary position -Desing a flyer for the Math Question of the Day HOMECOMING INFO Those participating in the homecoming take note... Each of the members will need to bring one roll of aluminum foil as soon as possible. Cardboard boxes will also be to good use. The parade will be Saturday at Birney Elementary School located on 775 Smyrna-Powder Springs Road. If you plan to participate please read over the form and get consent by your parents and bring the form back signed as soon as possible. Ms. Hall and Ms. Vincent will talk to Coach Calvin for the pick-up truck.   We will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for Homecoming Preparations.
