SB3: Classification (Taxonomy)
Objective: Students will investigate and classifiy the diversity of living organism.
EQ: How do scientists classify living organisms?
Opening: Whew...the EOCT is behind you! I am proud of your efforts. And, great job to all the students who attended the afterschool study session and the Saturday Review. PS: Happy Birthday LR!!!
"It ain't over until it's over!" We still have a week and a half plus your final exam. The final exam will be over classification (taxonomy). Last week we were cruising around the phyla composed of Invertebrates. We still need to complete a few phyla and then we will focus on Vertebrates.
Work Session
Today: You will classify different invertebrates and chordate species.
- Go to this website http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/nature/classifying-life.html
1) For each organism, collect 21 points for properly identifying the organism.
2) Create a bubble map for the Intertebrates http://www.zephyrus.co.uk/kingdomanimal.html . You will need to create 8 circles around the main bubble. Remeber, you are describing the characteristics found in each phyla.
3) Go to your animal webcam and record your animal's behavior.
- You will answer the questions related to your animal's profile. You must have 10 recorded observations for the times we have been in the computer lab. You will graph the behaviors in a bar graph and a pie chart. (Due friday)
