AP English Language and Composition

7th Period will be in class on Thursday for 90 minutes and 8th Period is in class on Friday for 90 minutes.

There will be six students (3 in each period) who attend for 45 minutes each day. I will work with you individually so that you stay on the right page.

We will begin reading "How to Tame a Wild Tongue" and mix in clips from (TV-14 edited) Frida.

Remember that the Malcolm X revision essay (to be posted on mygradebook) and the Rhetorical Precis along with other assignments will be due on Monday evening October 20th.

American Lit Honors

Today in Third Block, we will continue John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. We will review Chapter 1 and continue Chapter 2. We will have students read portions of the play aloud in class.

First Block will attend the Hispanic Heritage Show.

2. Look at on-line assessment tools like your textbook online, Blackboard, MyGradeBook.com (formerly quizlab) www.mygradebook.com

Five reasons to Blog:

1)     Students are more organized particularly about homework and tests when it is available to them in a format similar to MySpace or Facebook. They can access information from any computer and or from e-mail reminders on their phones.

2)     Students who are absent or in ISS can learn what happened in class and access any handouts or links to assignments used in class.

3)     A private page is created within the blog where students can read and write as each other’s audience.

4)     Teachers can collaborate with colleagues by giving them a snapshot of what is happening in the classroom.

5)     Parents can be informed of what is going on in your classroom.

Tuesday-A guest speaker, Mr. Ernest, from AIU

Wednesday-We studied Brent Staples' "Black Men and Public Spaces" and viewed clips from the Oprah Show.

Thursday-Mr. Watson and guest spoke to us about this weekend's College Fair. We also viwed clips from "Ali' (TV-14 edited) and "Malcolm X"--focusing on Malcolm's pilgrimmage to mecca, his renunciation of the tenets of racism, and his assassination.

Friday-AP Style Multiple Choice Test-4 passage 39 questions.

This week we worked on stories and non-fiction connected with the civil war.

We studied Lincoln's Gettyburg Address and viewed clips from the film "Gettysburg" on Tuesday.
