This week we will put together our Play List and take one song to play a clip and analyze. We will apply TPCASTT to the song lyrics:
Another method of analyzing poetry is the TP-CASTT method of analysis (a close cousin of the method we have been using.) The following is a breakdown of this method:
Title: Ponder the title before reading the poem
Paraphrase: Translate the poem into your own words
Connotation: Contemplate the poem for meaning beyond the literal level
Attitude: Observe both the speaker’s and the poet’s attitude (tone).
Shifts: Note shifts in speakers and attitudes
Title: Examine the title again, this time on an interpretive level
Theme: Determine what the poet is saying

10 Steps for the Playlist Project:
Step 1-Create a 10 song+ playlist
Step 2-Pick one song (contact me if you can’t access song and I’ll get it for you)
Step 3- PG 13 the R rated words-pick out one song and play some of it.
Step 4(optional)-display images associated with song or video clip of song
Step 5- Project title of song and have class guess content of song based on title
Step 6-Project title of song and song lyrics( clean up R rated words and replace with PG 13 words)
Step 7-Breakdown song
Step 8-Discuss hidden meaning of the song
Step 9-note poet’s attitude/any shifts in song
Step 10-Revisit Title and the song artist’s purpose
