SPRING FASHION FOR GIRLS

What are you wearing for the spring?

The spring season has arrived, and the winter has gone into hibernation. The weather in the spring time is rather tricky. Occasionally you do not know what to expect from it. One day it could be rainy and a little chilly, and the next day it could be rainy and hot. Right now, girls are looking for that cute comfortable look for the spring time. There are warm days when you do not have to wear a jacket and others when you can wear shorts and expose some skin. Spring is a season that is more for the girls at OHS.

What do you plan on wearing for this spring? Around OHS, some of the girls have the same idea about what to wear. Tasha Cook, an OHS Senior, plans on wearing skirts, Bermuda shorts, and capris. Amanda Hamilton, an OHS junior, has a summer feel for the spring and wants to wear sundresses and stiletto pumps. Sasha Hall, an OHS sophomore, says that she will wear her Converse, Bermuda shorts, and flip flops. Marica Corry, an OHS sophomore, will wear shorts, tank tops, and tennis shoes. Some girls around OHS take fashion serious and these few girls have a unique style about them.

Some people have to have a certain brand name, or get it from a certain place. Others just get what they think will be fashionable, and fit their personality and style. Looking around OHS you will see girls wearing a lot of Aeropostale, Apple Bottom, and Hollister. Tasha and Amanda do not really mind what brand name as long as it is cheap, but still fashionable. Many other girls think the same way; they prefer their shoes for the spring time to be Soda shoes, jelly flats, and also forces. Tasha and Amanda like to shop at the mall and get their clothes. Going to the mall is cheaper than people think. Sasha and Marica said, “You have to catch the sales in the mall and you will get some good stuff.”

Do you think there is a specific time to go shopping for the spring? When the season comes up, that is the time to go shopping and change up the style. All four girls plan on going shopping during spring break. The stores have sales for every new season that comes up so they can get rid of the old season’s clothes. So what ever time a girl plans on going shopping depends on them.

Immigrants’ should be allowed in America!

                    

Is Immigration really a problem?

                    1999 was the year I immigrated to the United States. 1999 is the year that I left my  beautiful Mexico. It is the year I left where I was born and raised by my grandparents.    For me, immigration life is the hardest because it is like living in a place where no one wants you around. It is like living in a place where people are racist to you just because you’re Mexican, or Hispanic. It is the kind of life that only an immigrant can understand.

Can you image how much it can suck? From families whose parents can’t work because they are not “legal” and/or do not have a social security number. The reality is that most immigrants leave their homeland looking for a better life. Yet, jobs are not open to us here. Instead we are faced with a lack of understandings. Instead we are not comforted by an empathetic feeling. Americans don’t understand.

They do not understand that immigrants are doing the hardest jobs for minimum wages. That we are working at making houses, painting them so that the communities look like a better place to live in. We are the farmers, construction workers, gardeners, housepainters and the day-laborers that make up the base of your country. No one but an immigrant can understand the feeling of frustration.

Why is it that Hispanics are treated like animals? A barricade for example is like a cage. The cage is around the United States and instead it blocks those from getting in.

Imagine yourself being an illegal. You are driving home from work tired. Suddenly, you see a barricade in front of you. How would you feel knowing you are about to get stopped and probably deported? How would feel if you could loose your family? How would you feel if you could loose the opportunity for a better life?

In my opinion only illegal people that are doing wrong such as stealing, selling drugs, and etc are those who should be deported not the ones that are actually here for a better life. Not the farmers, construction workers, gardeners, housepainters and day-laborers who struggle to put food on the table and money in their pockets. Not for the families struggling to survive with the promise that one day “things will be better, because we are in America.” Is this really justice? Is it fair to think of an immigrant in these terms without forethought?

I really think that what Americans call “justice” in the United States when talking about immigration policies tends to lean towards a negative discussion on the issue. The idea that we came hear to steal jobs, that we came here to deprive anyone or take from the economy. These ideas are not from a place of concern, but from a place of hate.

Sometimes I wonder how beautiful this world could be if every country in the world got along. If people could travel and visit any place in the world without having to worry about being deported, capture and probably even killed because you are not from their. If people could really understand what “justice” means. Perhaps then, they might be able to relate to how an immigrant feels.

Everyone has their own style and opinion on the way they dress, but is it always right?

 Women’s Shoe Fashion

      It is now spring and people find ways to express themselves this time of the year through their personal apparel style. Shoes make a big part of your attire and actually can make your outfit look like a billion dollars with the right pair of shoes. As the weather is getting warmer and we are getting closer to summer, ladies it is that time to pull out the Sandals, Heels, Gladiators, comfortable tennis shoes, and those plan & simple Flip-flops.

     Colors, Patterns, and flowers are a huge theme in the spring season. The right color shoe can make your outfit glow. Floral embroidery on heels is a great way to spice up any outfit you wear its fun and gives you different colors to play with in your outfit. Patterns can also give an accentual flow of the colors in a heel and draw attention to your feet. Colors play a big role as well; bright colors can bring out a shoe to make it speak a thousand words.

     The Gladiator shoe is an Ancient Roman and Greek inspired shoe with a high fashion twist. You can wear the shoe in any vibrant or neutral color and it can bring out any jean or shirt. Gladiators look great with shorts and skinny jeans. They can also help a simple dress be more than a simple dress.

     For days when you don’t feel like getting all girly but you still want to look flashy, tennis shoes are the directions to go in. Nike dunks, Converse, Creative Recreations, and vans are very versatile to any look you are going for.

     Flip-flops are classic, comfortable, and simple. You can find them in any color. They go with everything you wear. They are easy to find. Flip flops are one shoe that you can wear over and over again with out people making it a big deal. You can wear them around the house, to the park, the beach, school, work, and just about any where and make them work.
 
Men’s Foot Fashion
 
    Guys have it easy when it comes to the way they dress. Simple jeans, shirts and tennis shoes and they are on their way. For Spring most guys might pull out there comfortable flip flops. For some it’s the same attire with all the seasons of the year, tennis shoes. But some guys might consider expanding their horizons with showing their feet, but at Osborne there are very few.

     Most guys wear reactive recreations, Converse, Vans, Nike dunks, Air Jordan’s, and Polo’s. With all of these shoes they have very expressive colors, maybe exciting patterns are asking a little too much from males but colors have an effect on their outfits. They can where tennis shoes with skinny jeans, baggy jeans, or cargo shorts.
Flips flop are not usually seen on feet of the boys in Osborne but if they are they are neither colorful nor fun. You might find a guy where them if they dress preppy. Aeropostale, Hollister, American Eagle, and Abercrombie flip flops. They are plan and simple white, black and brown, very comfortable and they go great with holey jeans and cargos.

     Spring Season is an awesome time to show off your sense of fashion; rather it is your own personal style or comes from a magazine. There are a lot of different ways to spice up your outfit to make it look like it came from a high fashion store. The right shoes can make your attire speak a thousand words. Certain patterns and colors can make your outfit an essential glow and make it flow.

Food in the Freshmen Building

To eat or not to Eat?

Are you tired of administrators forcing you to throw away food when entering the Freshman Building? I think we should have a right to have food in the building. At OHS you are not allowed to bring food in the Freshman Building whether it has been opened or not. If a student is caught with food or beverages n the building that says water and flavored water are the only exceptions. “When students have food in the building there are fries and food wrappers on the floor” this is a quote from freshman administrator Mrs. Walton. Earlier in the week I interviewed Ann McCarver, who is also a freshman administrator. During the interview she talked about why no food in the freshman building became a rule. She explained that it became a rule because the building was brand new and wanted it to be nice and clean. But, students tend to throw there wrappers on the floor, and the gum is under the desk and on the walls and in general this being a messy building.                        

    The ruled started in the 2005-2006 school year when the building just opened. When students have food in this building Mrs. McCarver thinks this is bad because the students are messy and they do not clean up their mess. McCarver thinks this is a good rule because right outside of the building there are hot wing bones and hot cheeto wrappers outside. She also talked about how so many kids try to sneak around the rule and when they are caught they get an attitude. If they are caught they are forced to throw their food in the trash. McCarver says Mrs. Walton started the rule and every adult in the building enforces the rule. She says students show lack of respect when they throw wrappers in the building.

Students should be able to bring food in the building because throwing away something that is not finished and something that you paid for is wrong. Students should be able to finish their meals in their classrooms. Administrators do now allow food in the building because they are trying to keep in clean. Now I understand that if student ate in the building it would be chaos.

OHS’ Principal Steven Miletto Named Georgia Principal of the Year

    On April 13^th, Osborne’s own Steven Miletto was named Principal of the Year for the state of  Georgia. At a surprise ceremony held at OHS, Miletto received the honor of being recognized for: excelling in educational leadership, resolving complex problems, developing self and others and community service, which names him GASSP POTY.

    GASSP POTY stands for Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals Principal of the Year. The actual definition of a secondary school is an educational institution where the final stage of schooling required by federal law, known as public education, takes place. Simply stated, Osborne is a high school that follows primary education, or elementary/junior high in the educational progression of an individual.

     The GASSP POTY program is sponsored my MetLife, an insurance company, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Department of Education. Miletto will represent the state of Georgia in a competition for National Principal of the Year; the location has not yet been disclosed.

     The process in becoming the National Principal of the year entails an application which includes 3 essays and an interview. The finalists will be announced in August and in September the winner. Despite the winner, in October the principal of the year for each state will attend a meeting in Washington D.C.

     Miletto is a former history teacher beginning his teaching career at Clarkston High School in DeKalb County then moving on to South West DeKalb High also working as the theater director. After a lot of consideration and a thought changing talk with his mentor, who was also the principal of Heritage High in Rockdale County, Miletto was convinced to move on to HHS gaining another role as the soccer coach. The new school of  Salem HighSchool, also in Rockdale, was beginning to open and Miletto began to work there from the open of the school in 1991. While there Miletto served as the yearbook sponsor, the public speaking teacher, and in 1995 gained his first position in administration as the assistant principal. He the moved on to Gwinnett Countyat Parkview High Schooland was also the assistant principal. His last place of work before Osborne was at Loganville High School in Walton County were he worked for three years and also moved up to the next highest administrative position as the principal.

    At OHS, Miletto has been an influential piece in changing the culture of one of the most diverse student populations in Georgia. His accomplishments have gained recognition at both state and national levels. In an exclusive interview Miletto was asked why he was chosen as GASSP POTY and he stated, “We have come a long way [at Osborne.]” So when you see Miletto in the hallways do not be afraid to say “congratulations on becoming Principal of the Year.”
