About (The Basics)
This student run Newspaper is the product of a Journalism I, II and III courses at OHS. The three aforementioned courses are instructed by Ms. Carolyn McCully. The courses are also considered electives as well as a "student organization."
Purpose
The first purpose of this blog is to instruct students in all aspects of news print journalism through writing, gathering news, research into news related content (history, elements of writing, laws and ethics, etc.) and the ultimate creation of an online student newspaper.
The second purpose of this blog is to allow readers, like you, insight into R.L. Osborne High School. By reading our pages, it is our hopes that you will have a greater understanding of our school and our schools mission to: Educate...Everyone...Every Day...Every Way!
The third purpose of this blog is to allow students the opportunity to "Model, Believe, Utilize, and Nurture" the R.L. Osborne High School community, through the reporting and expressing of their relationship with the school, be it through reporting on events (sports, school functions, student organizations) or the expression of their ideas. This purpose aligns with our school's Core Values:
We model our aspirations. We believe in our capabilities.
We utilize our resources. We nurture ourselves.
Mission
The mission of The Cardinal is simple: to relate the on-goings, interests and news related events at R.L. Osborne High School to its students, faculty and community.
Why an "online newspaper?"
Today, the Internet is slowly becoming a viable source of current news. Considering this, and the advent of technology, the staff and adviser of The Cardinal have opted to create an online version of the Student run Newspaper. A printed version of the newspaper is currently on the slate for Spring 2009. Additionally, .pdfs will be available for download through this site.
