              Pre-College Checklist for Juniors

Fall

􀂅 Consider becoming involved in extracurricular activities.

􀂅 Make a list of your abilities, preferences, and personal qualities. (This will come in handy when choosing your major.)

􀂅 Make a list of things you may want to study or do in college.

􀂅 Begin your college search. (Keep in mind that parents and teachers can be an excellent source of information)

o Make a list of at least 5 schools that interest you.

􀂅 Talk about your financial aid options with your parents and school guidance counselor.

Winter

􀂅 Plan your Spring testing schedule.

􀂅 Continue to refine the list of schools that interest you.

􀂅 Sign up to take the SAT and ACT for the first time in the Spring.

􀂅 Begin searching for scholarships.

Spring

􀂅 Prepare and take the SAT and ACT.

􀂅 Prepare for your senior year. Make sure you are scheduled for all the classes you need, and consider taking AP and honors courses.

􀂅 Start visiting the colleges that interest you. Visiting is the best way to determine if that college is really right for you.

􀂅 Research application and scholarship deadlines. (It is a good idea to submit your application early.)

􀂅 Plan to meet with your guidance counselor so you can make sure you are on the right track.

Summer

􀂅 Continue visiting colleges.

􀂅 Start filling out applications for the colleges that are still on your list.

􀂅 Start your scholarship and application essays.

􀂅 Consider volunteering, getting an interesting job or internship, or signing up for summer learning programs. All of this will help you choose the right college, and be accepted.
