difference between a Hope Grant and
a Hope Scholarship?
The Hope Scholarship is used at
Colleges and Universities for Degree programs. The Hope Grant is used for
certificate and diploma programs.
What is the
minimum core GPA needed to receive the Hope Scholarship?
Hope Scholarship = 3.0 (College prep
diploma) and 3.2 for (Technical diploma)
What is the
difference between a core GPA and a cumulative GPA? A core GPA calculates academic classes only. A cumulative GPA
calculates all classes.

What classes
are not included in calculating your core GPA?
Elective courses OUTSIDE of English, Math, Science, Social Studies
and Foreign Language.
Middle School courses transferred to High School.
All other elective courses (PE, Art, ROTC, Business, Fine Arts).
Can the Hope
Scholarship be applied to schools
outside of Georgia?
No, only schools in Georgia honor the
Hope Scholarship.
If students
do not graduate with a core GPA of 3.0 or higher, will they be able to earn the
Hope Scholarship at a later
time? If so, how?
If a student does not have a high
school GPA of 3.0 or higher, he/she can earn the Hope Scholarship after 30
credit hours from their college or university as long as his or her GPA is a
3.0.
Can students
qualify for the Hope Grant without a
GPA of 3.0?
Yes. If you are a Georgia resident enrolling in a
certificate or diploma program at a Georgia public college, university, or
technical college, you may be eligible for the HOPE Grant regardless of high
school graduation dates or grade point averages. The HOPE Grant covers tuition,
HOPE-approved mandatory fees, and a book allowance.
What types
of schools accept the Hope Grant?
Colleges, Universities, and Technical schools accept the Hope Grant for certificate and diploma programs. Some examples of these programs include: Cosmetology, Auto Mechanics, Culinary Arts, and HVAC.
