SGA Member Expectations

All members are expected to follow the following guidelines for meetings and event participation:

1. Be on time! 3:45PM
2. Must stay at least 30 minutes for meetings
3. Must check the blog once a week and comment on new postings
4. Participate in events
5. Input on ideas
6. Community service hours

Polos

Polos will be $8 - men and womens sizes available. For large sizes cost will be more. Name and position can be added for $4 extra. Design will go on left chest area. Should it say "Osborne High" instead of just "Osborne"?

SGA second half of the 2011-2012 school year

Hello,

Here are some of the events we will either be participating in or deciding upon for the second half of our year. If the sophomores, juniors or freshmen want to come up with ideas for themselves let me know. These are just the things that I already know we will be looking at for this semester.

FYI: We will be taking photos either the week we return or the next week at a meeting.

SGA

• Leadership day (late January)
• Valentine Sales (February - MUST BEGIN PLANNING NOW!)
• Soccer Tailgating Party (February- MUST BEGIN PLANNING NOW!)
• Resume/Interview Skills workshop
• Rent-A-Senior (tentative, early April?)
• Keep Cobb Beautiful (May)
• Relay for Life (April-May)
• Elections for next year (end of April - beginning of May)

Seniors

• Senior Week (spirit days, activities, give aways, cookout) (last week in March)
• Senior breakfast (May)
• Senior shirts (need designs, need to vote on designs, order shirts - need to have organized by mid-January) - only 1 design submitted so far

 

Potential Volunteer opportunity...

Still gathering information on this but Fair Oaks Elementary school is holding a fall carnival on October 20th and needs volunteers from 4-8:30PM. See Ms. Yeomans to sign up for potential community service activity!

SGA Meeting October 4, 2011

Today we met to discuss grade level plans and to do some discussions for upcoming events. We will be working on a blood drive for next month so stay tuned for plans on that. In addition we are going to push for a "pink out" at one of our last home games this month. More details to follow but it will be in recognition for Breast Cancer Awareness and will be at either the October 14th game or October 28th.

Officer elections are NEXT week in advisement! October 13th! Campaigning to begin next Monday - no more than 4 posters per candidate and any hand outs can not disturb classes. See Ms. Yeomans for more information.

Next meeting is next Tuesday in the Media Center. Plan to be there!

 

Valentine Sales 2011

Thanks to everyone who helped out our sales were a success this year! ☺

Balloons and carnations (thanks Elvis!) were THE things to have and apparently it doesn't matter if we can't deliver because sales today out of the classroom door were brisk and happening!

So thanks to everyone who made this a success this year, you guys did a great job!

Grade level committees

Senior Committee – Headed by Zenaida Peterson

• Need to get word out on senior dues and shirt submission design
  • Pick a design just in case no submissions (F123 TS Outfitters )
• Begin thinking about and planning Senior Week activities – what want to do
  • Spirit Days: Kindergarten Day

 

Junior Committee – Headed by Lauren Smith

• Plan Mentorship (big brother/big sister) program for next year
• Beginning of school year activity?
• Worked on hoodie ordering and deadlines. As soon as have 12 orders, will place order.

Committees and SGA meetings!

New plan! Instead of the full SGA meeting every Monday, we will form committees to work on various projects and anyone who wants to plan something can join that committee and won't have to sit through things they are interested. Instead SGA will meet as a group bi-monthly.

Committees are being formed for the following events and will meet more often:

Valentine Sales: Planning and implementing the Valentine fundraiser sales. What to sell, advertising, pricing etc. First meeting - Monday January 24th

Soccer Tailgating Party: Planning the tailgating party scheduled for February 16^th activities, advertising etc. First meeting - Tuesday, January 25th

Constitution Creation Committee: Create a Constitution for SGA comprised of policies regarding elections, qualifications of officers, duties, mission of SGA, purpose etc.

School Employee Appreciation: Planning and implementing activities for the various school employee appreciation weeks (Guidance Counselor, Clerical staff, Teacher etc.)

Movie Night: Planning and implementing a movie night including selection of film, advertising, miscellaneous activities, finding out what will be necessary to play film in auditorium etc.

 Spring Fling: Assisting in the planning of the spring festival with PTSA

All officers are expected to join at least one committee.

Also even if you do not join a committee, you will be expected to help actually work the event.

Hours will be noted for officers and members and will be taken into account when time to offer graduation cords.

Winter Homecoming 2010

Based on the availability of dates for basketball games this year (only 7 home games total), it looks as though Winter Homecoming will take place Friday, January 29th against Woodland. Crowning will take place between the boys and girls games. As usual, the court will be smaller for winter with only one representative per grade level from 9-11th grades. The senior court will have approximately 3 girls and 3 boys.

Applications can be downloaded here or picked up outside room 212. They will be due Jaunary 18th. An application fee of $5 will be assessed to all applicants - this will not guarantee placement on the court only on the ballot. Voting will take place in advisements on Thursday, January 21st.

Rules for campaigning: 4 HANDAMDE posters per applicant. No photocopied paper posters will be allowed. All posters must be approved by Dr. Miletto before posting.

Student Government Committees

In addition to the duties to each classes, there are several committees we need people to help work on for SGA itself. Below are the different committees, please reply and let me know which you would be willing to work on - we really need everyone's help and participation.

Don't forget joining these committees can be great anecdotal evidence of participation on applications and resumes! Each committee will need people to lead the group and to work the different activities. Great signs of leadership!

Publicity/Advertising: Publicizing and announcing various activities for SGA and each of the classes.

Spirit: Ideas to create and boost school spirit and support both with students, faculty and staff and out to the community.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation: Yes we have to be nice to these folks! This will be planning ways to handle teacher/staff appreciation & recognition.

Clubs/Organizations: How to help meet the needs of other clubs and organizations at OHS and create unity amongst all groups.

Constitution: We need a formal constitution regarding all practices, details and regulations for SGA. There will be sample constitutions to look at and see how we would like to set ours up but we really need something formal in writing.

School Communication: Building ties with teachers and staff to improve communication and relations between SGA, other organizations and the adults at OHS.
